Challenge
The US National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration needed a high resolution Video Wall for a multipurpose use. The system needed to perform well as both a digital signage system and a visualization system. This hybrid system would serve to educate visitors of the information center about NOAA through high resolution maps and images. It would also serve as a tool for important briefings. A typical, scaled video wall would not suffice due to the fact that high resolution content would have to be compressed to a fraction of its actual resolution, thereby significantly reducing the clarity and detail of NOAA’s content. In addition to locally rendered content, NOAA wanted the ability to output video to the server and display it on the wall. They needed the capabilities of a digital signage box, visualization system, and video scaler all built into one package.

CineMassive Solution
CineMassive displays designed, built, and installed a 3x3 ultra narrow video wall running at 9x high definition. The heart of the system is a custom built Bravo Video Wall Controller capable of outputting at 5760x3240 total resolution with both 2D and 3D rendering capabilities. High resolution maps, images, Google Earth, and video are all displayed with stunning clarity and unprecedented detail. Content that would normally be confined to a small display or scaled down to a fraction of native resolution is suddenly visible in full detail.

The custom server is also capable of capturing up to four simultaneous high definition video sources. Users can connect component, DVI, HDMI, or VGA video sources to the DVI-I inputs on the server. DVD players, cameras, laptops, and workstations can all be connected to the system and displayed on the wall. Content is captured into the server and becomes an independent application window that can be positioned and sized to cover any part of the video wall.

CineMassive also deployed a customized multi monitor capable digital signage package. Unlike most digital signage solutions for video walls, the CineMassive solution does not require the wall to be scaled to the resolution of a single display. Content can be displayed at its native resolution or scaled and position to any part of the wall, creating a 9 x HD digital canvas. CineMassive also included the CineMassive Media Player, the only media player capable of rendering video across multiple displays without the need for advanced gen-locking hardware.
