The CinePort Multi-Monitor Laptop External Expansion System
The CinePort is a mobile graphics card that plugs directly into your laptop's PC card port (CardBus) and allows you to add up to four additional displays to your laptop. When combined with your laptop's built-in display and built-in external monitor port, you can run up to six displays from one laptop.
Other products that enable multiple monitors on a laptop merely add additional monitor ports to your system without adding any additional processing power. The individual monitors are treated like one big monitor, which means that you won't get all the advantages of a true multi-monitor experience. The end result is lower resolution, lower image quality, and a slower system that is suddenly forced to do far more work without any additional power.
The CinePort adds an additional Graphics Processing Unit to help manage the additional monitors. The end result is a rich, vibrant image displayed on fully independent monitors. The CinePort uses a Type II card. The expansion system works with most brand name PC notebooks and Apple PowerBooks. However, some laptops use brands of CardBus controllers that do not work well with the CinePort.
